Meet with your representative

You should schedule a meeting in advance with each of your three legislators if you want to speak with them. If you do not schedule an appointment then do not expect to meet with them, but you can still drop by their office and speak with their aides. If you do not know who your representatives are you can call the toll free hotline at 1-800-562-6000 or check on-line at www.leg.wa.gov.

NOTE: Each family should bring a batch of cookies or muffins for their senator and two representatives along with a note of appreciation and encouragement.

Tour the state capital

After lunch your family may attend a free, one-hour tour of the state capital. The tour includes a brief history of the capitol, an explanation of the legislative process, a visit to the temple of Justice, and a mock trial where the Supreme Court convenes. Some of the tour is conducted outside, so dress appropriately. You will need to sign-up in advance for this event. The tours take place at 1:00 and 2:00.

Attend afternoon workshops

1:00- Diana McAlister and Candice Childs- This workshop will discuss what the law says about graduating your homeschoolers, what resources are available, and how to get into college or trade school or get a job.

2:00- Scott and DiAnna Brannan- This workshop will explain what Alternative Learning Programs are and what homeschoolers need to know about them.
