Homeschooling parents Scott & DiAnna Brannan founded CHN in 2003, recognizing the need for an organization committed to protecting independent, parent directed, home school freedoms in Washington State. The Brannans gave of themselves continuously, serving as the effective, winsome, and God-honoring voice in Olympia for the rights and freedoms of homeschooling families in Washington.
In 2014, the Scott & DiAnna moved out of state, handing CHN to other home educators who had worked with them and who shared their commitment to:
Carefully monitoring proposed legislation for any that might be a danger to parental rights and homeschool freedoms;
Working with legislators and others to help them understand the perspective of independent homeschoolers and to alter or defeat legislation that would be harmful to homeschoolers;
Testifying at legislative hearings pertaining in any way to home education and parental rights;
Alerting homeschoolers of the need to interact with their legislators about these and other matters, and
Coordinating and hosting the educational and influential Annual Home Educators’ Day at the Capitol begun by the Brannans and co-hosted by partner organization, Christian Heritage Home Educators of Washington.
