The 2020 Legislative Session is from Monday, January 13th to Friday, March 13th.

  1. This is an even year, so the legislature meets in short session unless they vote to extend it. The status of bills can change quickly. Citizens need to be ready to respond with very little notice.

Important ways to contact your legislators:

  • CALL the Legislative Hotline:
    • 1.800.562.6000 — Keep this number under important numbers in your cell phone! Call day or night.
    • Be prepared! Staff will ask for:
      • your address to verify your legislative district,
      • the bill number,
      • your position on this bill,
      • and if you want to leave a short message.
    • This information will be forwarded to your three legislators.
  • ALSO — Email your legislators: Remember when you email your legislator to include
    • a) The bill number and position in the “subject” line
    • b) That you are a constituent (resident in their district), and include your address (emails with no home address are usually not read).
    • c) Keep your message in a file to reference in future discussions, etc.
  • ALSO — Each year, send each of your legislators a hand-written messages:
    • To encourage and thank them for they work they do (even if you don’t often agree wiourth them!);
    • To express your concerns/wishes, pro or con, regarding legislation that is important to you.
    • Many legislators have expressed, to us and others, that this is the most effective way to be heard by your elected officials.
  • A STRONG FINAL ENCOURAGEMENT:  DO ALL THREE!
